At UMAMI Crave the Fifth, we understand that time is of the essence when it comes to planning and preparing meals. Creating plant-based meals and meals that avoid food intolerances like gluten, or even meals that are diabetic friendly, can make it even more time intensive.
We are Joanna and Stephanie—sisters-in-law and business partners. Between us, we have four children, two spouses (Joanna is married to Stephanie's brother), three dogs and a cat! We know firsthand how challenging it can be to create meals that are nutritionally sound, taste great and come together in a hurry. As a chef, Joanna could create meals from scratch every day that hit the flavour and nutrition boxes, but like many of us, has little time to do so. Stephanie is a nurse who enjoys cooking but finds it increasingly hard to find time to create great meals that her whole family will enjoy.
With three nutritional-yeast-based, vegan, and gluten-free UMAMI Crave the Fifth Dressing, Dip and Finishing Sauces to choose from, we are using UMAMI in some manner every day to create easy, delicious meals with ordinary food. Here are some of the ways we incorporate UMAMI Crave the Fifth into our meals:
JOANNA: I love UMAMI Original drizzled on avocado toast, and it's my favourite way to finish a buddha bowl. My kids take it in their school lunch as a dip for raw veggies. I make a pakora sandwich wrap with basmati rice, slaw, pakora and UMAMI Curried Maple that we all love. Other easy favourites include curried maple roasted carrots or warm potato salad. One way that we love to use UMAMI Chipotle Caesar is to drizzle it on baked potato wedges, along with vegan cheddar, tofu bacon bits and plain vegan yogurt.
STEPHANIE: I use UMAMI Crave the Fifth Original the way some people use salt and pepper: I put it on pretty much everything, from vegetable sushi rolls to a sauté of broccoli slaw with mushrooms and garlic. I've even added it to a soup that was missing "something". My favourite way to use UMAMI Chipotle Caesar is to pour it over a whole head of cauliflower before roasting it in the oven, then slicing it into thick chunks and serving it with fried capers and more Chipotle Caesar, maybe a sprinkle of nutritional yeast, too. I could drink UMAMI Curried Maple from the bottle, but it's also delicious on a prepared pizza crust with sliced peaches and grilled corn.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if your meals are cookbook or magazine photo worthy. What matters is that they are satisfying, healthy and make you and your family feel good about eating them. It is our mission at UMAMI Crave the Fifth to create products and share them with you so that you can do just that!
